Activity patterns of dogs and wolves (ongoing)
How have anthropogenic factors influenced activity patterns in domestic dogs? To address this question, we use accelerometers to quantify activity and rest-wake patterns in several groups of domestic dogs (companion dogs, sled dogs, village guard dogs) and captive wolves. Dogs’ close genetic affinity with wolves makes them ideal for comparative studies. We also recently implemented telemetry data to gain more insight into the spatiotemporal patterns of free-roaming dogs. This is an ongoing collaboration involving multi-national institutions such as Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve in Canada, Wolf Science Center in Austria, and Wolf Park in USA.
